UKCM Pipa plucked string group participated in the UK's largest Mid-Autumn Festival celebration in Chinatown in the heart of London.

2024 London International Chinese Music Festival

China Arts, UK Chinese Music and the London Youlan Qin Society, in partnership with SOAS University of London, is proud to present our second London International Chinese Music Festival. The Music Festival will be held from 22nd to 27th July 2024 at concert halls in central London and the renowned SOAS University. The festival is honoured to have the support of the Arts Council England and will partner with "Nouvelles D'Europe", which will provide coverage of our events throughout the festival.
It comprised:
• Summer School 5天夏校 (7月22-26日)
• Concerts (Cambridge/London) 音樂會巡演(剑桥、伦敦) (7月24, 25, 26, 27日)
• Lutes of The Silk Road Concert/Workshops 专题:絲綢之路上的琵琶/魯特琴音樂會和講座、工作坊
• Master/Ensemble Classes/Workshops/Yaji 專家課/合奏課/工作坊/雅集/书法与国画活动及课程
• Instrumental Grading Exams and Competitions 

The pictures are mainly from the main concert of the festival - Gala Concert, held at Holy Sepulchre Church, London EC1A 2DQ.
The concert focused on classics from both Eastern and Western music, such as including Youlan Qin Society's "Three Variations on the Parting at Yangguan Pass," Li Pengpeng's "Creak of the Oars" and "Drunken Ecstasy", Yang Kang's "Initial Heart" Huang Ziyang's "Czardas," Zhou Jingyu's "Spanish Gypsy Dance", and the British Chinese Music Society’s arrangements of "The Song of Burying Flowers" and "Butterfly Lovers." The programme also included Tan Dun's film score "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and James Batty's original five-string pipa and piano piece "Red Bell and Yellow Bell."

Lutes on the Silk Road Concert

Concerts Series

Musicians performed seven types of lutes from the Silk Road, including the Chinese pipa, Kazakh dombra, Turkish balaman, Iranian tar, and Syrian oud, recreating the music of the ancient Silk Road.

Chris Goodwin, President of the British Lute Society, stated that the lute is the soul instrument of Silk Road cultural exchange, and "Lutes on the Silk Road" has become a conduit for China’s connections with Central Asia, the Middle East, and Western cultures.
