About 

UK Chinese Music (UKCM), est. 1998. The leading organization in the the UK and Europe for Chinese music performances and education. Its founding members include world-class guqin master professor Li Xiangting, Daoist and erhu music expert Chen Dacan and pipa/guqin virtuoso and ethnomusicologist Dr Cheng Yu.

Since its inception, the ensemble has performed many hundreds of concerts, festivals and workshops in the UK and Europe. The ensemble performed for the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay event and has appeared at such major venues as the London’s British and V&A museums, the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Royal Opera House and at the Edinburgh, Brighton, Pontardawe, and Lancaster Festivals. In Europe and beyond, the musicians have performed at WOMEX (Spain), WOMAD (Canada, Sweden and Finland), Spoleto (Italy), Masala (Germany) and MAD festival (Spain).

Apart from many published CD albums under such labels including ARC, Universal and EMI. The musicians have recorded for film and TV including Disney’s “Mulan” and “Shang Qi- Legend of Ten Rings”, “Dr Who” and the BBC’s “Wild China” and “Born in China” documentaries. 

UKCM has initiated and supported its award-winning group the Silk String Quartet (2007) and the popular Silk and Bamboo Ensemble (2001) as well as a Chinese-Western mixed ensemble Silk Breeze 2021). It is a main contributor to the London Chinese summer music schools and festivals that have run for the past 20 years.

英国中乐团（UKCM）成立于1998年，是英国及欧洲地区领先的中国音乐演出与教育组织。其创始成员包括世界级古琴大师李祥霆教授、道教与二胡音乐专家陈大灿，以及琵琶和古琴演奏家兼民族音乐学家程玉博士。

自成立以来，乐团在英国及欧洲各地举办了数百场音乐会、节日演出和工作坊。乐团曾为2012年奥运火炬传递活动献艺，并在伦敦的大英博物馆、维多利亚与阿尔伯特博物馆、南岸中心的伊丽莎白女王音乐厅、皇家歌剧院，以及爱丁堡、布莱顿、庞塔达维和兰开斯特等多个音乐节上登台表演。在欧洲及更广泛的地区，乐团的音乐家们曾在西班牙的WOMEX、加拿大、瑞典和芬兰的WOMAD、意大利的斯波莱托、德国的Masala和西班牙的MAD音乐节上演出。

除与ARC、环球音乐和EMI等唱片公司合作发行了多张专辑外，乐团成员还为电影和电视作品录制音乐，包括迪士尼的《花木兰》和《尚气-十环传奇》、电视剧《神秘博士》，以及BBC的纪录片《美丽中国》和《野性中国》。

英国中乐团创立并支持了屡获殊荣的丝弦四重奏乐团（2007年）、广受欢迎的丝竹乐团（2001年），以及中西合璧的中西乐混合“丝韵”乐团（2021年）。此外，乐团是伦敦中国音乐学校和音乐节的主要贡献者之一，这些活动已连续举办了20年。

Meet Our Musicians

Dr Cheng Yu

A renowned pipa and guqin virtuoso, ethnomusicologist and teaches
at SOAS University of London.Formally, a soloist in China’s National Orchestra and recognised by Songlines as “a leading and creative Chinese musician”.Cheng is the founder of the UK Chinese Music and London Youlan Qin Society and has led numerous music projects widely in the UK and Europe including at London’s Southbank, Barbicans,
Rich Mix and at WOMEX and WOMAD festivals.

程玉博士是一位著名的琵琶和古琴演奏家、民族音乐学家，现任伦敦大学亚非学院的教授。她曾是中国国家乐团的独奏演奏家，并被《Songlines》杂志评为“中国领先的创意音乐家”。程玉是英国中乐团和伦敦幽兰琴社的创始人，曾在英国和欧洲广泛开展了许多音乐项目，并在伦敦南岸中心、巴比肯艺术中心、Rich Mix以及WOMEX和WOMAD音乐节上演出。

Kwong Thye Lee

Lee specialises in traditional and contemporary repertoire and guqin duets on the xiao flute. Member of the London Youlan Qin Society,
Dennis has performed at the British Museum, V&A Museum, Royal Opera House, The Bramall (Birmingham), Rich Mix, The Place (Euston), Trafalgar Square, Southbank Centre, etc. His teachers included Hu Ruijun (London), Zhang Weiliang (Beijing) and Luo Shoucheng (Shanghai).

Lee主攻传统和现代曲目以及用箫演奏的古琴二重奏。他是伦敦幽兰琴社的成员，曾在大英博物馆、维多利亚和艾伯特博物馆、皇家歌剧院、布拉莫尔音乐厅（伯明翰）、Rich Mix、The Place（尤斯顿）、特拉法加广场、南岸中心等场馆演出。他的老师包括胡瑞君（伦敦）、张维良（北京）和罗守成（上海）。

Sara Zhang

British-Chinese artist. Graduated in 1993, studied art in Qufu Normal College, East China - subjects include Chinese traditional art, calligraphy and art history. Since came to the UK in 2004, Sara has taught China traditional art in many UK schools.She performed live on fan painting, calligraphy and origami for many events including at V&A and British Museums as well as at SOAS, University of London.
She also practices oil painting in her spare time.

Sara是一位英籍华人艺术家，于1993年毕业于中国东部曲阜师范学院艺术专业，学习内容包括中国传统艺术、书法和艺术史。自2004年来到英国后，Sara在多所英国学校教授中国传统艺术。她曾在许多活动中进行现场扇画、书法和折纸表演，包括在维多利亚和艾伯特博物馆、大英博物馆以及伦敦大学亚非学院。她也在业余时间练习油画创作。

Jiaqi Zhang

Award Winning guqin virtuoso, recently graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing. Jiaqi is currently studying a MA in Arts and Cultural Management at King's Collage London.
She was the director of the China Youth Chinese Orchestra and has performed in the USA, Singapore, Malaysia and more. Jiaqi won the gold prize for the 4th International “Qin and Zheng ” Zither Festival in 2019. She has been active with the UK Chinese Music Ensemble and played at the Holy Sepulchre Church’s Christmas concert
and at SOAS,University of London.

Jiaqi是一位获奖古琴演奏家，最近从北京中央音乐学院毕业。她目前正在伦敦国王学院攻读艺术和文化管理硕士学位。她曾是中国青年中乐团的指挥，并在美国、新加坡、马来西亚等地演出。Jiaqi在2019年第四届国际“琴与筝”箏艺节中获得金奖。她在英国华乐团活跃，并在圣墓教堂的圣诞音乐会以及伦敦大学亚非学院的演出中表现出色。

Qin Lei

Qin Lei is a London-based freelance calligraphy artist and a committee member of London Youlan Qin Society. She has worked for Chinese media company Phoenix CNE and company in-house cultural training programmes. She is a keen promoter of Chinese culture and has many years of teaching experience in Mandarin.

秦是一名伦敦的自由书法艺术家，也是伦敦幽兰琴社的委员会成员。
她曾为中国媒体公司凤凰卫视CNE工作，并在公司内部文化培训项目中工作。她热衷于推广中国文化，并拥有多年的普通话教学经验。

Kang Yang

Kang Yang is a versatile and thrilling young artist based in London, England. Currently, Kang studies with Professor Janice L. Chapman and Marcus Van den Akker at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, on the Artists Masters programme. As a Zither Musician, after he won The First Prize of the Third International Youth Chinese Zither Competition for professional category. Kang started his Masterclass & concert tour across China. Kang has performed in places such as Westminster Hall, Chongqin Grand Theatre of China, Guotai Grand Theatre of China, Barbican Center, and Milton Court etc. Kang was also invited to perform in the 2022 Burberry Autumn/Winter Fashion Show (London) with London Contemporary Orchestra. Record voice works for 2022 Chanel Fashion Show (Paris) with British music collective-SAULT and collaborated with Conductor Rosie Danvers record 5 albums with British music collective-SAULT (2022 God collection).

康是一位才华横溢的年轻艺术家，现居英国伦敦。康在金汉音乐与戏剧学院的艺术硕士课程中师从于珍妮丝·L·查普曼教授和马库斯·范·德·阿克尔。作为一名古筝演奏家，康在获得第三届国际青少年古筝比赛专业组第一名后开始了他的大师班和音乐会巡回演出。他曾在威斯敏斯特大厅、中国重庆大剧院、中国国泰大剧院、巴比肯中心和密尔顿宫等地演出。康还受邀与伦敦现代管弦乐团一起参加2022年巴宝莉秋冬时装秀（伦敦），为2022年香奈儿时装秀（巴黎）录制声音作品，与指挥家罗西·丹弗斯合作为英国音乐集体SAULT录制了5张专辑（2022年神的集合）

Ziyang Huang

Ziyang, a young Chinese Erhu Musician, trained at China Central Conservatory of Music with Professor Jiangbo Zhu from 2008-2021, graduated with an undergraduate honours degree. She was the only student who held a successful Erhu Solo Graduation Concert there. Currently, she is doing her MA at University College London. As a professional erhu player, she has been invited to tour China with Twelve girls’ band and the Central Chinese Orchestra; participates in annual recordings of festive events on CCTV; selected as a young Chinese representative to the Sino-French Friendship and Cultural Exchange Conference; Guided the Tsinghua University Music Ensemble etc.

Ziyang，一位年轻的中国二胡音乐家，从2008年至2021年师从朱江波教授在中央音乐学院学习，并获得本科荣誉学位。她是唯一一个在中央音乐学院成功举办独奏毕业音乐会的学生。目前，她正在伦敦大学学院攻读硕士学位。作为一名专业的二胡演奏家，她曾受邀与十二女子乐队和中央民族乐团巡演中国，参与了CCTV年度节日活动的录音，并被选为中法友谊文化交流大会的青年中国代表，指导清华大学音乐团等。

Tu Yijia

Yijia is a singer-songwriter from China interested in exploring her cultural identity and diverse traditions through music-making. Yijia attended 'Sing My Song’ at the age of 16 and launched her music career as a singer-songwriter in China. After winning the 16th CMA (Chinese Music Awards) for ‘Media’s Choice Album’ and the nomination for ‘Best New Chinese Female Artist’ for the Chinese Media Music Awards. After coming to the UK, Yijia has established a career in traditional Chinese folk singing and Guzheng playing, having performed on WOMAD festival, Victorious Festival, BBC Radio 3, l, Asia House’s ‘One Voice’ documentary series and Sofar Sounds London.Yijia is endorsed by Arts Council UK
as a Global Talent and holds a degree in Music from
the University of Oxford and SOAS (University of London).
