The film won four Academy Awards upon its release, including Best Original Score and Best Foreign Language Film. Set against the breathtaking landscapes of ancient China, it tells the story of the legendary master warrior Li Mu Bai (Chow Yun-Fat) and his secret love Yu ShuLien (Michelle Yeoh), with whom he has entrusted the safekeeping of a mythic sword known as the Green Destiny.
