Special Performance by UKCM at the Opening Event at British Museum Silk Road Exhibition Opening Event

Music by The String Duo
Pipa Lute & Guzheng Zither
Cheng Yu and Yang Kang

Delighted to be invited again to perform music at the opening ceremony of the British Museum's upcoming "Silk Road" special exhibition (26 Sept to 23 Feb). Last year, our Silk String Quartet and I performed for the special exhibition "China’s Hidden Century” from the late Qing Dynasty, as well as during the Mid-Autumn Festival. This 6-month large-scale special exhibition, in cooperation with 29 countries, will present cultural relics, characters, ideas, culture and history of the Silk Road culture. Rare to see, don’t miss the opportunity.

The British Museum has announced a major exhibition on the history of the Silk Road, which will open this September 2024. Titled The Silk Roads, this exhibition will explore the rich cultural exchanges and the 500-year period (AD 500–1000) when the Silk Road was at its peak. Visitors will get a rare glimpse into the vibrant network of trade routes that connected East Asia to the Roman Empire, shaping cultures, traditions, and religions across continents.

Two of our talented musicians from the UK Chinese Music Ensemble (UKCM) have been invited to perform at the prestigious opening event of this exhibition!

Cheng Yu (Pipa Lute) and Yang Kang (Guzheng Zither) will grace the occasion with their exquisite blend of traditional Chinese instrumental music. Their performance will bring the ancient sounds of the Silk Road to life, offering a musical journey that echoes the essence of cultural exchange that the exhibition aims to showcase.

This is a unique opportunity to witness the harmonious connection between music and history, as Cheng Yu and Yang Kang transport the audience back to the golden era of the Silk Roads.

We warmly invite you to join us at the exhibition's opening and experience not only the rich history but also the mesmerizing sounds of The String Duo. Whether you are a fan of traditional Chinese music or simply curious about the historical impact of the Silk Road, this event is not to be missed!

For those of you eager to learn more, feel free to explore the exhibition information here: British Museum Silk Road Exhibition.

Thank you for your continued support of the UK Chinese Music Ensemble, and we look forward to seeing you at this exciting event!
